Photography Instruction?

Because we will be camping with the dogs, horses, mules and people that will be our subjects, we have much more flexibility with who, what, when and where we want to shoot.

Together each day, we can select which subjects we would like to work with and plan a session for that day based on the needs of each photographer.

We can also venture out at any point in the day together (or on our own) to photograph any of the animals with us on our trip.

I will bring my laptop so the days that we are at the pack station (as long as starlink and electric are working), we can go over things like editing and workflows.

This type of trip allows for a lot of 1 on 1 time if you would like to ask questions and maybe work on some things without the pressure of others.

Who can attend?

Anyone! If youre not a photographer and you would like to know how to take better photos on your phone, great! If you could care less about photos and you want to fish, perfect! If you just want to come and relax with some fun people, ride horses, hike, awesome! All are welcome :)

Whats the plan?

The day to day schedule is above but in short, we will be staying 2 nights camping at the pack station while taking day rides on the horses. On the third day we will be packing up our gear on the mules and riding horses into the wilderness to a base camp where we will spend the last two days/nights.

What about dietary needs?

The camp cook will make accommodations ahead of time for any dietary needs. Once booked, I will have everyone fill out a form for the pack station.

Where will we sleep?

The first two nights we will camp at the pack station where you can tent camp or sleep in your vehicle. The last two nights we will be tent camping.

Rider Weight Limit

240lbs

Weight limit for pack mules

  • Each person has a 30 lb pack limit that the mules will carry. This includes clothing, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, fishing gear, liquor, etc.
  • Photographers with camera gear can pack 35lbs.
  • You may bring your own tent if under 10 lbs which will not be included in 30 lb weight limit.

What can I bring on my horse?

Everyone will get a horn bag to put their lunch and snacks inside. Bring your water bottle and rain gear (rain gear will be tied to your saddle). No backpacks, fanny packs, purses or sacks on horses for safety purposes.

All camera gear will be safely packed on mules.

If you want to take photos/videos on your phone while riding, be sure to have some kind of strap so if you drop your phone, it stays with you.

What is nearby?

The pack station is about four hours drive west if you fly into Las Vegas. You would drive through Death Valley national Park, which is quite beautiful. Also, within about 4 to 5 hours of the Pack station is Lake Tahoe, Yosemite National Park, Kings Canyon National Park, Sequoia National Park, and Joshua tree. There’s also the Alabama Hills, famous for lots of western movie scenes.

Ask me about things to do before or after the workshop!

This is my absolute favorite part of the country as I have spent quite a lot of time exploring this area in the last year.

From visiting all of the surrounding national parks, enjoying beautiful natural hot springs, attending rodeos and finding incredible hiking trails and scenic drives.

If you would like to make the most of this trip, I would highly recommend spending some more time in the area and I can give you so many different ideas of where to go!

Here are some photos I took at Cottonwood Pack Station

We will be taking day rides to this meadow and lake.

Here are some videos from pack trips I have gone on to give you an idea of what a pack trip is like.
